Pleasing stay of Yana : Hotel staff takes great pride in their hotel. Comfortable, friendly, just what we had hoped for!  We were greeted with a warm friendly welcome by the man at the front desk when we arrived which made a great first impression. The room was small for the two of us but worked out as it was only for one night. A week later we had a reservation for another night and was given a larger room. Both rooms had balconies and we didn't experience noise or any disturbances in the neighborhood (we were on the 6th then 5th floors). The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were meticulously clean. There was even a bathtub to my delight! Complimentary breakfasts, luggage storage, advice on places to visit in Athens (thanks Georgia!)... made this hotel experience pleasurable. It is obvious the staff takes great pride in their hotel. The Olympeion includes the sanctuary (temple) of the Olympeian Zeus, Roman baths, classical houses as well as a section of the ancient citys fortification wal. According to the Geographer Pausanias, the temple of Olympian Zeus was founded by Deukalionas a mythical ancestor of the Greeks. In the age of tyranny, circa 515 BC, Peisistratos the younger grandson of the tyrant Peisistratos, attempted to replace the old temple with a new, more impressive temple. The tyranny, however, was abolished and construction work was terminated. The construction of the new temple was latter assigned to the Roman architect Decimus Cossutius by the king of Syria Antiochus IV, Epiphanes. Antiochus  died in 163 BC and the construction of the temple was once again abandoned. The structure did not have a roof and pediment. The National Archaeological Museum of Athens is the largest archaeological museum in Greece and one of the most important museums in the world devoted to ancient Greek art. It was founded at the end of the 19th century to house and protect antiquities from all over Greece, thus displaying their historical, cultural and artistic value. Museum building, a protected historical monument, was founded in 1866 on a plot donated by Eleni Tositsa. Its construction was based on designs by the Architects L. Lange and P. Kalkos. The final form of its facade was the work of the E. Ziller, who also supervised the work until 1889, when the west wing was completed. The present building took form gradually in the 20th century with a series of additions on the east side. In its galleries can be traced  the long evolution of ancient Greek culture.
