In the hinderland of Epidavroswere two most important healing centersin the intire Greek and Roman world. The sanctuary dedicated to Apollo Maleatas, a god with healing proprerties, which has founded around 800 B.C., and the Asclepieion, the seat of antiquity's physician god whose worship was established in the 6th c. B.C. The most important monuments belonging to the 4th and 3rd c. B.C. In the sanctuary in the plain are the temple of Asclepius, the Abaton, the Tholos and the theater, the restaurant, the katagogion or hostel and the stadium. In the mountain sanctuary are the Classical temple and Altar of Apollo, and large stoa, the priests' residence and the precinct of the Muses.
THEATER OF EPIDAVRUSThe thather of Epidauros is the most perfect and renowned monument of its kind, combining superb acoustics, elegance, and symmetrical propositions.
Every four years following the Isthmian Games, the musical, singing, and dramatic contests of the Asclepieia were held here, as well as other dramatic performances that formed part of the cult of Asclepius.
MUSEUM
The museum is located with in the archaeological site of the sanctuary of Asclepius. Exhibits date from the archaic to Roman era and include inscriptions, medical instruments, architectural members and sculptures, large-scale statues, snd many small-scale votives.
